Grammy Shmammy

Well music lovers, its Grammy season once again. The award show, which is set to take place on February 13th 2011, announced the nominees last night in an hour long special. The nominations concert featured performances by Katy Perry (BARF!), Justin Bieber (DOUBLE BARF), Train (TRIPLE BARF), B.o.B. (We approve), and Bruno Mars (We REALLY approve).

However, the night wasn't about the performances, it was about the nominations. There were some huge surprises, like Cee Lo Green being nominated for anything, let alone Record of The Year and and Song of The Year, and some nominations we saw coming from a mile away, like Eminem being nominated for Album of The Year!

It came as no surprise that the Biebster was nominated for Best New Artist, and its going to come as no surprise when he takes the trophy home. Is it just us, or are the Grammys supposed to be a prestigious award show? The fact that that nine year old little boy and Katy Perry are nominated at all kind of take away the "honor factor", don't you think?

At any rate, You know we are Goo Goo for Gaga, and the nominations were big for her as she is the most nominated female artist this year! Her specific nominates are Album Of The Year (The Fame Monster), Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals (Telephone), Best Dance Recording (Dance In The Dark), Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (Bad Romance), Best Pop Vocal Album (The Fame Monster), Best Short Form Music Video (Bad Romance). As little monster, we have to say, we are extremely proud of the pop goddess for her accomplishments - they are well deserved! As for the other nominees, we are SO excited for Eminem, Jay Z, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, B.o.B., Bruno Mars, Beyonce, the Glee Cast, Paramore, and La Roux! Cannot wait to see what happens! (Bieber, if you win, you better RUN!)

Not Ready To Make Nice

Music, fashion, art direction, and an amazing story. Do you need any more to make an amazing music video? While country may not be my most favorite genre of music, The Dixie Chicks are one of my favorite bands of all time, and Not Ready To Make Nice is one of the best songs to come out of the genre. In case you don't know the story, Natalie Maines, the lead singer, was one of the first celebrities ever to openly say a negative comment against the President of The United States, who at the time was George W. Bush. Once the comment was maid, the group saw a large backlash from conservatives, and even received death threats.

Besides Natalie Maines being one of the absolute best singers of our modern generation, and the song being an anti-Bush song, you have to love the song because it was so well written, and the music video has some of the best art direction seen in the last ten years. The video was directed by the famous British director Sophie Muller. The song made number 77 on the list of Rolling Stones 100 Best Songs Of The Decade, and won three Grammy awards for record of the year, song of the year, and best country performance by a duo or group.

The Dixie Chicks said in interviews that writing the song was a way to free themselves, and to help them move on from a situation that got blown way our of proportion. As you have come to see with this blog, we want to share any music that is about setting yourself free, so please, even if you are not a fan of country music, watch the video below and let us know what you think.
